A Message To All Of Our Players From Paul Wise

11 Jun 2021 by Heidi fitzpatrick

Hi Everyone,

Just thought it might be helpful to pass on some advice to players
to reduce the chance of injuries when we resume after lockdown.

One of the main effects is the loss of continuity of what our bodies are
used to doing. For basketballers, this is particularly true for jumping/landing, change of direction and speed of motion.

If we don’t train and play for a couple of weeks, our bodies can
react poorly to intense work when resume.

To avoid this problem:

-every second day

-warm-up – walk/cycle/run

-ease into basketball movement patterns.

-start slow and build up the speed of shooting and chasing your own
ball

-depending on how much space you have, run shuttle runs
or agility runs (eg Illinois agility run – google it)

-once going well, you should have sprinted, changed direction,
jumped and landed for rebounds and had a decent workout over
45-60 minutes.

-preferable to do this on alternate days as we have seen lots of
cases of stress injuries from too much impact work on
consecutive days.
